Voyage Medical has developed the Direct Endocardial Visualization Ablation Catheter - IRIS™ System to enable physicians to see inside blood filled cardiac chambers or vasculature. The IRIS Catheter platform is the first catheter technology to fully integrate imaging and radio-frequency ablation in a single system. This enables intraprocedural visualization in real-time, high-resolution color with the ability to titrate energy delivery to tissue to safely create complete and contiguous lesions, at the same time offering to reduce the potential adverse effects of traditional RF ablation.
The IRIS System consists of a light source, camera and self-expandable hood that is positioned against the wall of target anatomy while allowing intracardiac diagnostic recordings and pacing capabilities. Saline flows through the hood and displaces blood from the field of vision to provide a view of the tissue wall and deliver radiofrequency energy to the cardiac tissue. A high-resolution camera provides real-time images to the operating physician on a video monitor allowing them to visualize endocardial anatomy monitor lesion formation as they are created, and lining lesions up for contiguity. This represents a significant clinical advance in Atrial Fibrillation treatment that should improve effectiveness, enhance patient safety and decrease procedure times over current ablation treatment platforms.
