The Direct Endocardial Visualization Ablation Catheter - IRIS™ System provides physicians a real-time high-resolution color view of treatment areas, such as in the ablation of Atrial Fibrillation (AF).
The IRIS Cardiac Ablation Catheter enables Electrophysiologists to visually guide energy delivery to targeted endocardial anatomy during percutaneous AF ablation procedures, ensuring optimal lesion formation and no gaps. This represents a significant advance over current ablation catheters, as gaps between ablation lesions are a postulated cause for failed pulmonary vein isolation resulting in AF recurrence.
Our immediate focus is on the treatment of AF, a disease that currently affects roughly 2.2 million Americans and 4.5 million people in the European Union. We expect Direct Endocardial Visualization (DEV) coupled with the ability for clinicians to guide energy delivery simultaneously via the IRIS Cardiac System to translate into: improved patient safety; a less complex procedure; potentially less procedure time, fluoroscopy time, patient saline loading, a reduction in the need for repeat ablation procedures, a higher quality of life for patients; and savings for healthcare payers.
